With close association with The Family Companion, Eagle Ridge proudly recommends training programs that are directed and designed by Marcia Rafter Ritchie, LVT, CPDT who has been teaching family oriented classes since 1984. Marcia, along with her fellow instructors, provide classes at several locations throughout Western New York.

Each class is designed for dogs during specific stages in their development and to meet  the goal of the general pet owner. While class size is limited to 8 dogs per session, all household members are welcome to attend.

Training techniques in their programs are based on positive reinforcement and help foster the bond between family and pet. Curriculums include both group obedience, activity and puppy programs. In home instruction is available for pre pet counseling and private obedience lessons. Behavior consultations are also available with a veterinary referral.

Group Classes Offered:

Super Puppy Social Hour (8-12 weeks)

This is a rotating program that addresses the critical socialization period of pups. Puppies 8 to 10 weeks of age may jump in at anytime during this 4 week program. Puppies are socialized with a variety of people, other animals, different surfaces, handling and noises at a time when we can have the biggest impact on their adult personalities. Also included is an introduction to clicker training.

Puppy Pre-School (12 weeks to 5 months)

This program is designed for puppies 12 weeks of age to 5 months. The ideal time start training is before bad habits are formed and when dogs are more receptive to learning new and different things. With the help of our socializing exercises, obstacle course, basic obedience exercises and training games, puppies learn to be friendly, well mannered members of your family. Preventative health advice and common puppy behaviors are also discussed. Puppy Pre-School is an investment that will surely be rewarded with years of companionship with your special pet.

Family Companion Class (6 months to adult)

This program is designed for the adolescent dog (5 months to 2-3 years of age). Although a portion of our classes are set aside for traditional obedience training, what makes our program unique is the way we apply these exercises to practical household use. With fun, innovative lessons we teach you to make the most of our classes while your dog is at home with your family. Problem behaviors commonly encountered with dogs of this age are also addressed. It’s the ideal class for establishing good manners and building a positive relationship with the family pet.

Graduate Family Companion (Canine Good Citizen Prep)

This program is designed for dogs that have successfully completed our Family Companion Class. The purpose of this program is to ensure that your dog is a respected member of the community who is trained and conditioned to act mannerly in the house, in public places and also in the presence of other dogs. During this class we will prepare your dog to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. Also incorporated are exercises for those interested in doing pet therapy work.

Delta Pet Partners Pet Therapy Prep

This class provides the opportunity for owner and dog teams to learn to brighten the lives of others. Dogs must have their Canine Good Citizen title prior to enrollment.

Obstacle Fun Class

Whether for fun or exercise, our class is designed to be enjoyed by all. Dogs learn to negotiate different jumps, tunnels, dog walks and ramps. Your dog will develop confidence; utilize excess energy and its great exercise for you too! Dogs must attend our Family Companion class prior to enrollment in this 4 week program.
