Enjoying a successful career in business administration at the Buffalo Zoo, Sally Cataldo, considered the idea of starting her own small business. While involved in the sport of dogs with her St Bernard’s, a seemingly ideal business opportunity of a boarding facility was presented to her.
Intrigued by its potential and possibilities, Sally purchased what was then; the ‘old’ Orchard Park Kennels in 1983. Knowing that the opportunity to provide quality boarding services, while being close at home with her family would combine her interest, knowledge and love of dogs with her administrative background, Sally, soon left the Buffalo Zoo and established what is now known as Eagle Ridge Kennels.
With the heartfelt philosophy that each ‘guest’ should be treated and cared for as if they were their own, Sally along with her daughter Carolyn, began providing the service foundation that now sets Eagle Ridge apart from other pet service providers. Individual care for each individual pet takes into consideration the needs of each pet at each visit and provides a safe, secure, and fulfilling home away from home.
Understanding that pets needs often change as they grow older, a separate kenneling area for senior and special needs pets was developed in 1985. A private cattery followed, providing quiet comfort and security for feline guests. Eagle Ridge was also the first in the western New York area to provide supervised doggie day care service. This program began in 1994, and quickly became one of the most popular services of Eagle Ridge.
Today, 25 years later, Eagle Ridge is one of the most recognized and respected boarding, grooming and training facilities in Erie County. As a full service boarding kennel, Eagle Ridge is often recommended and requested by many of western New York’s veterinarians and support staffs.
Sally has since passed the helm to her daughter Carolyn, but continues to have a pivotal role at Eagle Ridge. Carolyn, along with her husband David Tractenberg, DVM, both continue to advance Sally’s fundamental philosophy of individual care for each individual pet. The dedicated staff at Eagle Ridge is well known and respected for providing the high quality of service that Sally established long ago and still meets and exceeds what today’s pet owners have come to expect.
